I painted this as one in a series of Jaguar paintings for a nearby
Jaguar dealer. It seemed natural to choose a race track as the setting.
The D-type was some 25 mph faster than its predecessor, the C-type,
despite having virtually the same mechanicals. Aerodynamics were largely
responsible for the increase. The fin was added late in the design
process for directional stability. The D-type was hugely successful in
international racing.
